Essential Oil Safety
- Never take essential oils internally.
- Do not use oils undiluted on the skin. Only lavender and tea tree oils may be used neat in a first aid situation on stings or small burns. Only a small amount should be used however, and not repeatedly.
- Keep essential oils away from the eyes and mucous membranes.
- Keep all essential oils out of reach of children and pets.
- During pregnancy please consult a professional aromatherapist, as several essential oils are unsafe for use.
- Skin test oils before using: dilute a small amount and apply to the inner elbow. If redness, burning, irritation or itching occurs, discontinue use and dilute the area with any pure vegetable oil.
- Reduce the chance of acquiring a sensitivity reaction from constant use of the same oils by varying your choices.
- Spice, conifer and citrus oils can cause skin irritation and should be well diluted.
